William III (1694-1702)
Silver Shilling
1697, third laureate bust right, rev. crowned cruciform shields, (SCBC 3505, ESC.1128)
Toned with flashes of original brilliance, especially on reverse, much as struck. Certified and graded by NCG as MS 64
Collecting hints:
William III shillings of the London mint with plain reverse are quite plentiful and do turn up in high grades. They are sometimes prone to manufacturing problems such as tin flecking, striking weakness, adjustment marks and rusty dies. Collectors should aim to find examples with good colour and without problems.
