House of Stuart | Milled Silver

James II (1685-1688)
Silver Halfcrown
1686, first laureate bust left, rev. crowned cruciform shields, angles plain, edge SECVNDO, (SCBC 3408, ESC 749)
Beautifully toned and extremely fine, a superb specimen
Collecting hints:
James II halfcrowns are very difficult to find in the highest grade hence the huge price gap between VF and EF in the standard catalogue. Not only are many examples well circulated but coins often suffer weakly struck areas, haymarking and flecking
