Oliver Cromwell
Silver Crown
Draped bust, 1658/7 (S.3226, ESC.10)
An early strike with the usual die flaw to the obverse at a very early stage, engraved 'E.G. to W.H.W' on the reverse and subsequently 'W.H.W. to E.W. SEPR 14 1806' on the obverse. Dark tone, perfectly centred and better than very fine, unusual and rare to find a piece such as this with the engraving.
Note: Further research is needed on 'E.G.', 'W.H.W.', and 'E.W.' It is conceivable because of the type of coin that they could be members of parliament in the late 18th century, or it could simply be a family piece.
