Richard III (1483-1485)
Silver Groat
Type III
London, crowned facing bust, pellet below, rev. long cross pattee, mm. sun and rose 2, 3.01g, (SCBC 2157, N.1680). A wonderful example with a sharp portrait, clear regnal name and mint marks, richly toned and about extremely fine
Collecting hints:
Richard III groat are not strictly rare but common higher prices due to their popularity and demand. They occur in all grades but high grade examples are very rare. Collectors should look for a good portrait, mint marks and regnal name. Coins with the boar's head mint marks tend to be slightly more popular than those with the sun and rose marks
