Cambridge mint, moneyer Stircere, bust left with sceptre, +HAROLD RECX:, rev. long voided cross, fleur-de-lis and pellets in each angle, + STIRCEERE GRA, 1.14g, (SCBC 1165, N.803a). Deep, rich cabinet tone, good extremely fine and rare so nice
Collecting hints:
Harold I pennies are popular and in general are scarcer than those of Cnut and Aethelred. The two main types occur in all grades but collectors should look for problem free examples with a decent portrait and clear mint name
