House of Tudor | Hammered Silver

Edward VI (1547-1553)
Silver Shilling
Second period, Tower, bust 1
mm. arrow, broad bust with large crown, legend transposed, 1549, MDXLIX, 3.25g (S.2465, N. 1918/1). A little underweight and probably lightly clipped but with a clear portrait and shield for the issue.
Notes: The first shillings of Edward VI were Issued at just 60 grains (3.89g) and only during February/March 1549. They quickly proved unpopular and were replaced by shillings at 80 grains but of reduced fineness. As such they are rare and are seldom offered for sale.
