House of Lancaster | Hammered Gold

Henry VI restored (1470-1471)
Gold Angel
London mint
St Michael slaying dragon, rev. ship with H and rose beside mast, mm. pierced cross, 5.08g, (S.2078, N.1613). Very rare in any condition but particularly so in this state of preservation, struck on a slightly dumpy but full weight flan, extrmely fine
Note:
Although none of the contemporary accounts of the gold output of Angels and Half-Angels from this short restoration survive, the output must have been limited. The restoration only lasted for 6 months.
