Tower mint, Group C, third bust
Type 2a, mm. rose, 5.05g, (S.2787, N.2221, c.f. Brooker 462, Sharp C2/2). Superb portrait and shield detail, sadly a little clipped but evenly so without too much loss to legend, otherwise nearly extremely fine and much as struck.
From the Bedale hoard discovered in 2009 which contained coins from Edward VI to Charles I. This coin, struck in 1631-2 is close to the end of this period and could not have circulated for more than a few years before being buried during the English Civil War.
